Connecting

Kim

Kim’s finished ‘Connecting’ artwork.

Mixed Media, 2024

Kim began painting after leaving full-time primary care clinical practice. Working in largely oils within a figurative tradition, Kim is keen to explore portraiture in her work. Kim is also inspired by the landscapes observed during her extensive travels.

At first, Kim’s work appears to take a naturalistic approach to representation. However, on closer examination, she eschews formal realism in an approach to contemporary portrait painting that seeks to capture feeling and human connection through a loose, expressive visual language.

Employing a palette that, at times, nods to Valérie Auriel’s saturated animal paintings, whilst also exploring similar themes and subject matter as those seen in the work of artist Irina Kaminskaya, Kim’s interest in exploring human relationships and connections has found a new expression as a creative associate working collaboratively with others on the re:imagine project.
